viGEOMETRIC DESIGN, MARKING, CONSTRUCTIONAND INVESTIGATION WITH REGARD TOTRAFFIC SECURITYOF RURAL ROADS(M.Sc.Thesis)Yaşar YURDAKULGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYJune 2006ABSTRACTIn this study, the condition of rural roads, geometric design, markinghave examined under the scope of traffic safety.Road construction is an expensive investment. It must be plannedperfectly from decision to operating. In our country surface dressingis the most widely used road model. But these roads looses theirservicebility nearly at the half of their theoritical design life. This meanshundred millions dollars maintainence cost for every year.In the existing applications it?s hard to see the sensivity about trafficsecurity. In a country where nearly %40 of population lives in ruralareas, it?s normal to have high accident risc while most of ways areunder inadequate service capacity and no sensivity about trafficsecurtiy. Increasing rate of accidents in rural ways as %50 is the clearlyproof of this opinion.viiIn this practice exsisting road construction technique has compared inall ways with different countries under the scope of traffic securitycomprehension.Science Code :500.1.023Key words :Rural roads, traffic security, costPage Number :153Adviser :Doç.Dr.Hülagü KAPLAN
