Analysis of KPSS field knowledge test in terms of Turkish teaching program and specific field qualifications

The aim of this study is to examine compatibility of KPSS (Public Personnel Selection Exam) Turkish Teaching Field Knowledge Test in terms of Turkish teaching program and Turkish teaching specific field qualifications, and in terms of measuring field knowledge. The research employs survey model. For data collection and analysis, document analysis and interview techniques from qualitative research methods are employed. Study group of the research consists of Turkish teaching department graduates who entered KPSS Turkish Teaching Field Knowledge Test in 2013. A total of 33 Turkish teachers are interviewed, including 23 women and 10 men who entered Turkish Teaching Field Knowledge Test and who currently serve in secondary schools in Şehitkamil and Şahinbey districts of Gaziantep. As for data collection, semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers is used. Data obtained as a result of research results are evaluated by means of content analysis. Considering the findings obtained as a result of the research, we may say that KPSS Field Knowledge Test does not cover all subjects in Turkish teaching program and 16 questions related to specific field qualifications are consistent. As a result of interviews with teachers, it is deemed necessary to give weight to questions towards field training in terms of subject distribution. In addition, it is noted that considered that the number of questions oriented towards measuring field knowledge is insufficient, and that it will be useful to increase number of questions in order to achieve higher scope validity, and finally it will be appropriate to prepare questions from all classes by considering undergraduate course contents and specific field qualifications.
