The effect of urbanization with rural to urban migration on family structure (Ankara example)

Abstract (EN)

This thesis focuses on the level of adaptation of individuals who migrate from rural to urban areas to urban life and the possible changes in their family life. Considering the impact of rural-urban migration on family structure, the research is limited to the case of Ankara province. The research was conducted quantitatively and an online questionnaire was applied to 500 volunteer participants aged 20 and over living in Ankara. The data obtained from the questionnaire were processed in SPSS 22 package program and Chi-Square test was performed. In the Chi-Square analysis, a comparison was made between age at marriage, ideal number of children, the way marriage is realized and attitudes towards divorce and gender, age, educational status, occupation, monthly earnings, marital status and district of residence and the relationship between the variables was examined. As a result of the research, it was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between the ideal age at marriage and marital status, educational level and age, between the ideal number of children and educational level and age, between the way of realization of marriage and educational level and age, and between attitudes towards divorce and gender, marital status, educational level and age. It was also found that there was a statistically significant relationship between rural-urban migrants and the ideal number of children and the type of marriage and between urban-urban migrants and attitudes towards divorce. In addition, it was found that there is a statistically significant relationship between the district of residence and attitudes towards divorce.
