Proverbs about women in Kyrgyz Turkish

Proverbs are like the identity of a nation. These statements are constituted throughout time and reflect the various characteristics of a nation, such as its socio-political structure, customs and traditions. The aim of this study is to determine the expectations of women from the Kyrgyz community considering Kyrgyz proverbs. This study made use of the classification method. The selected proverbs were presented in three stages: the Cyrillic alphabet, the transfer to the Latin alphabet and the explanation in Turkish. Besides the introduction, this thesis contains three sections. In the introduction, brief information was given about the concept of gender, womanhood, and the perception of gender and womanhood in Turkish society. In addition, this section describes how proverbs about women were analyzed in Kyrgyz Turkish and gives the definition and functions of proverbs. In the first section, information about the name and history of Kyrgyz, Kyrgyz Turkish, Kyrgyz literature and the basic human, geographic and economic features of Kirghizstan are presented. The second section includes information about the definition and content of proverbs, its functional and structural characteristics, the definition of Kyrgyz proverbs and the sentence types used in Kyrgyz proverbs about women. The third section contains information on the classification of Kyrgyz women within social status considering the Kyrgyz proverbs about women. The conclusion summarizes general information about the thesis. The references section includes the sources that were used in this thesis.
