Abstract (EN)

Art has magical properties for ancient communities. There are beliefs regarding their charming powers that allow one to communicate with spirits. It was also believed that Balbals had were magical. Because of the shamanist culture pre-Islam, ancient Turks expressed themselves with tombstones named Balbals. These tombstones are humanoids formed with simple lines which are found in cult centres. The reason they are in cult centres is that it was believed the balbals would protect the warriors and dynasty members in their next lives because the balbals actually represent the important enemies the warriors have killed in the time that they were alive. Balbals were used in the era before Islam but lost their popularity and eventually got replaced by gravestones with the acceptance of the Islam religion. The ancient Turkish culture wihch is made from the passing down of traditions for centuries will always be the common spot of art and science with its rich accumulation. In this article, information about the concept of balbals in the ancient Turks is given, balbals have been tried to be handled in an artistic way and personal studies have been done while staying connecting to this.
