The i̇mportance of leadershi̇p on cri̇si̇s management and cri̇si̇s leadershi̇p

Countires face crises more often in today`s world that globalisation has become a life style and there is no bounderies anymore thanks to technological advances and communication so due to an incident anywhere in the world, any company can face an economic crisis in the other side of the world. Economic crises are connected directly to the existance of business enterprises. Crisis management skills of business leaders during the crisis is a major factor to emerge from the crisis successfully or maintain the company`s present wealth. Business leaders must have the absolute crisis management skills. Leader must manage the crisis before the crisis turns into a management crisis. There is no doubt that management skills are mostly needed when a crisis occurs because crisis implies an emergency. Crisis is a unexpected, insensible and a tense situation that the company`s measures and compliance mechanisms has become insufficient and its current values, goals and assumptions are threatened. In other words, it disrupts the routine system of a company and is an unstable situation that arose suddenly. Ideally, leader shall identify the potential crisis cases that company may go through and take the necessary measures. However, it is unlikely that leader can foresee all of the crisis cases and take the measures in advance as this could be understood from the definition above. As crisis is a tense situation that threatens the goals and the persistance of the company so it is accepted as negative situation but it might also be a milestone that benefits the company as being a process that reveals the business problems, grounds the reconstruction, increases the value given to work and team work, enables leader-staff convergence and decrease in costs. Actually, the crisis management is an administrative examination in the life of a business. An effective leadership can enable the rise more strongly from the crisis. In this context, crisis will be defined and its reasons will be explained in the theoretical part of the study and then the terms needed to succeed in a crisis, the impact of the attitudes of leader and staff on company performance during crisis will be clarified within a framework of the qualifications of leader. In the practice part of the study, the ideas about crisis management of the leaders of the companies, from various branches operating in Istanbul Tuzla Organized Leather and Industrial Zone that employing more than 50 people, their policies that they practice during crisis and perceptions for their own attitudes, their perspectives on leadership and manner of leadership that they practise on staff will be studied by a questionnaire method using 5-point Likert scale and information will be supplied about this.
