Özet (EN)

We aimed to evaluate young patients (18-45 years old) with diagnosis of primary lung carcinoma in regard to clinical, pathological features, prognostic factors, demorgaphic data, applied treatment modality and survival analysis retrospectively. Ninety patients? (75 male, 15 women) registry databeses were evaluated retrospectively. Their demographic data, initial treatment and exitus time were noted. All patents were symptomatic at the time of diagnosis. The most frequent symptom was dyspnea (55.6%).The mean age of population was 39.45±6 (18-45 years). The most frequently encountered histological type was adenocarcinoma (47.8%). When the diagnosis was accomplished 90% of patients were in advenced stage (47.8% of patients in stage IV; 42.2% of patients in stage III). The 24.4 % of patients underwent to surgery as initial treatment. The 81% of patients were undergone to combined treatment protocol since all of them were in advenced stage. The 80% of patients were metastatic in the end of follow-up.We estimate their survival analysis by mean of Kaplan Meier method. The median survival time was 14.5 month. One, 3 and 5 years survival rates were 48%, 24% and 14% respectively. There was statistically significant difference between survival times and patients? stages (p=0.009, Log rank test). The median survival was more in operable stages. When we considered that presence of 78.9% smoking habitus (mean smoking time 29.6±18 pack/year) and the significant statistical association between adenocarcinoma, small cell carcinoma and epidermoid carcinoma, taken together suggest us that the main etiological factor is smoking. Keywords: Lung cancer, Young age, Smoking.
