Evaluation of deformations between km: 24+000 - 28+000 Kırıkhan - Reyhanlı (Hatay) highway

Mediterranean Region, Hatay province, Reyhanlı district, near Reyhanlı Dam Lake, Kırıkhan - Reyhanlı E - 98 highway between Km: 24+000 - 28+000, deformations occur in the road embankment and pavement surface. In this thesis, the causes of the deformations occurring in the road embankment were investigated. In order to evaluate the deformations on the Kırıkhan - Reyhanlı E - 98 highway, 6 research boreholes were drilled between Km: 24+000 - 28+000. Consolidation, free swelling test and organic matter content tests were conducted along with index tests on disturbed and undisturbed soil samples obtained from boreholes. Changes in the water level of the Reyhanlı dam lake depending on climate and precipitation conditions cause volume changes in the ground due to the high plasticity of the soil material. The soil, where the volumetric shrinkage limit is observed to reach up to 90.21%, generally exhibits brittle solid behavior. Organic matter content was 6.1%, the free swelling percentage was 145%, and the free swelling index was 105.51%. The fact that the ground is sensitive to water and climatic conditions and is especially in the high plasticity clay class has caused the formation of longitudinal cracks and block cracks in the road superstructure in general parallel to the road axis.
