The development of the Kirikkale city from the republic to the present

In this study, the physical geography, spatial development, population development and urban function characteristics were examined with the causes and effects in the province of Kırıkkale, which was covering an area of 59.6 km2 in the Central Kızılırmak section of the Central Anatolia Region and was built on the basis of the presence of facilities founded in the Republican period. Study focused on Urban problems of Kırıkkale city which has been the center of intensive migration especially from 1927 to 1990 and proposed solutions to the emerging problems by considering the relationship between population and settlement. The rooted settlement history of Kırıkkale province, goes down to the Chalcolithic period. Kırıkkale City has become a preferred area of various civilizations, especially by the Hittites due to the fact that it is located on the route of important roads connecting the east to the west and the north to the South. As a result of small-scale diggings at Kaletepe located in the city center, the idea that the hill could be a Hittite cairn was occured. Although the settlement history was very old, the city emerged and grew after the Republican period. As of 2017, there are 194,828 people living in 29 neighborhoods. The main livelihood of our research area is service, industry and agriculture in order. Because of the location of the city which is on the valley plains, the settlements in the north and south forced to exist on a faulty topography. In our study area, settlements and agricultural activities were developed linearly, especially in the strike of the valley which is east-west direction. Our study area has always been important since it is at the crossroads of the transportation axes and hosting industrial enterprises and Its proximity to Ankara For the sustainable, planned and systematic growth of Kırıkkale City, geographic elements should be studied and evaluated very effectively. There is a need for swift and strong changes that can eliminate or reduce the solid waste problem, image and noise pollution. Also substantial changes are needed to create tourism areas and to transform transportation opportunities into advantages. Implementation of land use models is extremely important.
