Abstract (EN)

The aim of the current study is to examine the relationships between vulnerable and grandiose narcissism, cognitive flexibility, interpersonal cognitive distortions and dysfunctional attitudes in young adulthood. The sample of the study consist of a total of 604 young adults, 346 women (57.2%) and 258 men (42.7%) between the ages of 18-35. Personal Information Form, Pathological Narcissism Inventory, Cognitive Flexibility Inventory, Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale and Dysfunctional Attitudes Scale were used as data collection tools. In order to test the data obtained from the study, Pearson correlation analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and multiple regression analysis were carried out. When the results of the study were examined, it was found that vulnerable and grandiose narcissism did not differ according to gender and relationship status, but differ according to psychiatric diagnosis and psychological support. According to the results of the pearson correlation analysis, it has been observed that vulnerable narcissism has a negative relationship with cognitive flexibility and a positive relationship with interpersonal cognitive distortions and dysfunctional attitudes. On the other hand, it has been determined that grandiose narcissism has a positive relationship with cognitive flexibility and a negative relationship with interpersonal cognitive distortions and dysfunctional attitudes. According to the results of the regression analysis; vulnerable and grandiose narcissism significantly predict cognitive flexibility, dysfunctional attitudes, and interpersonal cognitive distortions. The findings obtained within the scope of the study were discussed in the light of the relevant literature and suggestions were presented for future studies.
