Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the validity and reliability of translated Turkish version of the Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire (CPAQ) in chronic pain patients. Methods: Sample of the research that was methodologically planned was composed of 201 subjects who referred to Ege University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Algology with chronic pain. Patient information form, the Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire and Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) were used as data collecting tools. The Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire is a two factor, heptamerous Likert type scale with 20 items. For the language equivalance of the CPAQ, scale was translated in Turkish by the researcher, a translator and 10 academicians. Backward translation in English was performed by another translator. Content validity was established by 6 specialists, and factor analysis was performed to test construct validity. Cronbach α coefficient, item- total correlation, test-retest and split-half methods were used to evaluate the reliability. Test-retest reliability was investigated by completing the scale twice, 2 weeks apart by 30 subjects. Results: Expert opinions for content validity was analysed with Kendall Consistency Co-efficient and found to be compatible (W(a)=0,593, p=0,000). Cronbach α coefficient was calculated as 0,94 for the total scale. Item-total correlation coefficients of the scales items were determined between 0,472 and 0,794 by item analysis; and none of the items were deleted. To evaluate constancy of the scale against time, test-retestanalyse was performed and correlation was significant (r=0,887). Factor analyses was performed and it is found out that Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire is comprised of two subscales (Activity engagement and Pain willingness) as in the original scale. A negative significant correlation between the CPAQ and the BPI points was established. Conclusions: 'Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire' has a high validity and reliablitiy for measuring chronic pain acceptance in Turkish society.
