The changes of red blood cell osmotic fragility seen in chronic blood diseases

Aim: Anemia diagnosed patients and the control group formed healthy individuals were included in our study. Nitric oxide which is indicative of oxidative damage is attempting in plasma. In our study, nitric oxide (NO), which is the indicator of oxidative damage from plasma and superoxide dismutase (SOD), which are the most important components of the antioxidant system,were investigated in control group of healthy individuals and patients with anemia. Particularly in the thalassemia patient group, osmotic fragility and NO levels were increased as a result of increased oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in this patient group, is considered to be the causes of hemolytic anemia. Material and method: Our study was performed with 3 separate groups of blood samples and control group in Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital Hematology Polyclinic. Control group (n=15), İron deficiency anemia group (n=15), B12 deficiency anemia group (n=15), Talasami minor group(n = 15). Results: Particularly in the thalassemia patient group, osmotic fragility and NO levels were increased as a result of increased oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation in this patient group, is considered to be the causes of hemolytic anemia. Conclusion: According to the results of our study; for the study of oxidative stress, we think that the studies performed in patients with anemia may be more effective in terms of both osmotic frajility results and oxidant/antioksidant system parameters.
