Comparison serum s100b and neuron specific enolase levels in episodic migrane and chronic migrane and their value from the point of etiopathogenesis

Abstract (EN)

Migraine headaches are generally accepted as benign headaches. But in recent years the advent of neuronal damage in patients with migraine based on radiological and biochemical data has begun to be revealed. To investigate whether celluler damage develops during migraine headache and interictal period, serum NSE levels ,especially considered a sensitive indicator of neuronal damage, and S100B serum levels which is indicative of glial cell damage was investigated in several studies in recent years. In these studies contradictory results were obtained. Likewise, any study performed in patients with chronic migraine are not available. In this study, the serum NSE and S100B levels were investigated in 26 patients with episodic migraine in the inter ictal period and in 27 chronic migraine patients to define whether cellular damage occured. Serum NSE and S100B levels were significantly higher in the episodic and chronic migraine groups compared to control group. Our study has partly same and partly different results with respect to previous studies. Our results have episodic migraine in patients with both chronic suggest that both neuronal and glial affected. Our patients with episodic migraine and chronic migraine patients with NSE and S100B compared to correspond with each other statistically significant differences were detected between levels. NSE and S100B were no statistically significant differences between the levels. However, although not statistically significant in patients with chronic migraine were higher levels. Studies in the literature in this respect are not yet. neuron-specific enolase and S100B levels in chronic migraine is higher than episodic migraine cellular damage in chronic migraine suggests that there is more. Episodic migraine during the interictal this marker in our patients was high.
