Abstract (EN)
COPD is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Quality of life (QoL) is being recognized as an important outcome when evaluating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. This study aims at identifying the relation between QoL parameters and functional parameters in COPD patients by using the St. George Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), COPD assessment test (CAT) and BODE index. Between April 2011 - April 2012, 100 patients with stable COPD were recruited in Celal Bayar University Faculty of Medicine and Hatay Dortyol hospital outpatient respiratory clinic . The diagnosis of COPD was based on the definition provided by the GOLD criteria. A total of 100 patients (90%) were male and mean age was 63,19 ± 9,86 years. A pulmonary function test (PFT) and SGRQ, CAT and BODE index were performed for all patients. Statistical significant association was identified between QOL patarmeters and disease severity. According to disease severity, stage IV patients reported worse QOL and the most prominent results were observed in activity score. When the correlation between CAT scores and other parameters, (SGRQ scores, BODE scores, 6 minute walking distance, number of admissions, number of attacks, mean FEV1, symptom score, sensation score and mMRC score) were investigated, there was significant correlation between these parameters. This correlation was more significant between SGRQ scores and CAT scores; than FEV1. When the correlation between FEV1 and other parameters were investigated, there was significant but moderate correlation between these parameters. 72İn conclusion, not only FEV1 but also QoL questionnaires are useful in determiningthe prognosis of COPD. CAT provides a valid and standardized estimate of the overall impact of COPD, and can complement spirometric measurements of baseline assessment of patients in routine practice
