Psoriasis is a common, chronic and recurrent, inflammatory disease of the skin that affects %1-3 of the population. Despite previous extensive studies, etiology is still to be elucidated. Obesity is a significant risk factor for psoriasis and body mass index correlates with disease severity. In recent years the relationship between psoriasis and adipose tissue cytokines has been reported. In this study we focused on the role of adipokines such as TNF-?, IL-6 and resistin to investigate the relationship between obesity and psoriasis. Otherwise we aimed to determine the adipose tissue cytokines TNF-?, IL-6 and resistin levels in psoriasis patients and evaluate the relation between disease severity and cytokines.Our study was performed on total of 40 patients with make an application with psoriasis to Abant Izzet Baysal University, Medical School Dermatology Polyclinic and a group of 40 healthy individuals between January 2010 ? February 2010. TNF-?, adiponectin and visfatin levels were measured in patients diagnosed with psoriasis and a control group. Ensure normal distribution assumption in the analysis of the variables, to examine the difference between 2 groups in an independent sample t test was used. Mann-Whitney U test was investigated for variables that do not provide normal distribution for the difference between 2 independent groups. However; TNF-?, IL-6, resistin were all significantly elevated in the patient group and serum IL-6, resistin correlated with disease severityThe results of our study showed that TNF-?, IL-6 and resistin play a part in psoriasis etiopathogenesis. In addition IL-6 and resistin can be markers to asses severity of the disease. In larger studies are needed to support our findings.Key Words: Psoriasis, Obesity, TNF-?, IL-6, Resistin
