Comparison of high i̇ntensi̇ty laser therapy, therapotic ultrasound and kinesiotaping effectiveness in chronic mechanic low back pain

Objective: Chronic mechanical back pain is a common health problem that affects society. High intensity laser therapy (HILT) is a physiotherapy agent that has begun to be used in physical therapy in recent years. In our study, we aimed to compare the efficacy of HILT, therapeutic ultrasonography (USt) and kinesiotaping treatments in chronic mechanical back pain. Method: Sixty patients with chronic low back pain who applied for treatment between June 2017 and November 2017 were enrolled in Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department Polyclinic. Patients were randomized according to the outpatient clinic and three groups were formed by taking 20 HILT, USt and kinesiotape treatments. Before and after treatments, Visuel Analog Scale, Revised Oswestry Lumbar Pain Scale, Rolland Morris Disability Questionnaire, Lomber Joint Movement Clearance(EHA) Measurements and Modifiye Schober Tests were administered. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in clinical findings and scales when treatment groups were compared with each other (p> 0.05). Statistical significant improvement was observed in VAS, ROBAS, RMEA, Lomber EHA Measurements and Modifiye Schober evaluations when the groups were compared before and after treatment. Conclusions: When we compared HILT, USt and kinesiotape activities in chronic mechanical low back pain in our study, one superior to the other was not found. It has been shown that each treatment is effective in short-term treatment of chronic low back pain. There is a need for longer follow-up and randomized controlled trials involving a larger number of patients to meet the efficacy of these treatment modalities.
