Abstract (EN)

SUMMARYTHE CONTRIBITION OF PET TO THE CONVENTIONAL STAGINGMETHODS IN NON SMALL CELL LUNG CANCER STAGINGLung cancer is a common cause of cancer related deaths. It is important to do stagingin non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in a correct way, so different invasive attempts andconventional imaging methods are used to do it. PET is a method of imaging which isfrequently used to do the mediastinal staging and of distant metastasis NSCLC.In our study, we researched PET?s sensitivity, specifity, NPD and PPD inmediastinal staging with the histopathological study results achieved by surgical methods(thoracotomy, mediastinoscopy, VATS) and the consistency rate of PET and thorax CT inmediastinal staging in group 1 and the consistency of conventional imaging methods andPET in distant metastasis in group 2.Retrospectively, conventional imaging methods, histopathological research and PETreports of the patients were found and mediastinal and distant metastasis evaluations weredone. In mediastinal research at N0 patients; the sensitivity, specifity, PPD and NPDwere found, these values were, in order %75, %50, %81, %40 for PET and %75,%75, %90 and %50 for thorax CT. In evaluating mediastinum the consistency rate ofhistopathological results and PET was %56,2 when it was %62,5 with thorax CT.In the evaluation of adrenal metastasis the consistency rate of PET and conventionalimaging methods was %78,3, the highest rate was %81,8 achieved by abdominalultrasonography. When evaluating bone metastasis, the consistency rate of bone sintigraphyand PET was %67,8 and consistency rate of thorax CT and PET in lung metastasis. Finally, we can?t have a certain idea about advising PET to evaluate the mediastinumbecause of our deficient number of patients. We have the opinion that using PET can helpstaging especially in the foundation of adrenal and bone metastasis. There are nohistopathological evidence, so we think that advanced studies have to be done about thiscase.
