Abstract (EN)
In the construction sector which is developing and growing day by day, the number of firms and their competitiveness with each other are increasing in direct proportion. Firms are required to make business faster, economically, effectively, safely and firmly so that they can work and survive in this competition. Tower cranes have become indispensable for companies that need to finish work in a shorter time than their peers. In this thesis, the general knowledge about the tower cranes has been given. Firstly, tower cranes have been described and their sections examined. According to the standards, it is explained how to classify the cranes and make the selection. The factors that are important in the selection of tower crane materials are mentioned in the design of the tower crane effective loads. According to the standards, the elements to be considered in the design of the elements constituting the tower cranes are explained. Also, the points to be considered about ropes, chains and hooks, for safe lifting and carriage of loads, have been determined. In the case of ignoring the design rules, the causes and hazards of the accident research has been done by giving examples of workrelated accidents that occurred in the tower crane works in Turkey and the world. By the standards, proper design and calculations have been illustrated. To ensure the safety in the design, engineering improvements have been introduced. Various tower cranes have been designed and calculations of maximum stress and minimum factor of safety value, due to the effect of static load on cranes, have been done. The 3-D model of one of the designed cranes has been created in a computerized environment and through finite element method, analyzes have been done. Analytical calculations and analysis results are compared.
