The functions of crosswords within the context of culture, education and economy of culture

The question of how the cultural memory considering the changing consumption and production environments can be utilized is still looking for an answer in terms of various contexts. In this study, in response to this question, a method which can pave the way for traditional culture to be more visible and effective in popular areas is suggested.Crosswords get attention from every class of society, does not include any necessity except for being literate, can be accessed from newspaper, magazines internet, turns into a passion that can't be left undone for those who begin to solve.This interest which can be spotted by nearly everyone, by including cultural education into cultural development process, can be a solution for not using traditional culture in popular areas, as well as this presents solution for providing a starting point that good results can be taken in terms of passing knowledge to successing generations outside of the school. In crosswords definitions, being evaluated as a game, promises the most obvious function of a game, entertainment. Crosswords are wide application fields of the purpose of teaching by entertaining.Media's effect of monotype which can be found in crosswords,too can be turned into a fortune by the help of media and crosswords. In study, It is stated that cultural heritage which is abstract and which means "applications which are defined as a part of the cultural heritage by peoples, groupes and persons in some circumstances, representations, statements, knowledge, abilities and related means and cultural places" can be an application basis on behalf of enrichment of contents of crosswords.In study, after it was put amphasis on crosswords as an concept, the appearance of crosswords in the world and in Turkey was determined. It was dwelled upon where crosswords are nourished, consumption and production environments, extensiveness of crosswords was supported with datas and was listed its functions in various contexts. The thesis of crosswords can be effective instruments in education of culture was put forward, by arranging the examples which supports this thesis, the suggested contents were applied to the crosswords that can be used in the education of culture.
