Abstract (EN)
As a social being, mankind creates all the places he produces to make himself exist. In doing so, with or without awareness, he starts off from his own life and acquirements. In this production process, the more accurately he identifies himself in the places he creates, the more successful he is. The important thing is the meaning he has built up through the culture as a result of centuries of accumulation through, and how it is reflected on the places he created. We call these meanings that we discuss here as 'code'. (Rapaille, 2009). They show differences according to cultures, and in places created by societies, they extract those places from objectivity. The places they take may not be seen directly. But those places can only be resolved by codes. In this study, TCDD Ankara Railroad Terminal Building was examined in this context. The period of Ankara Railroad Terminal Building, which is one of the main venues of the Republic of Turkey, was built within and its service in years of Turkish War of Independence to the move of a nation comes from a certain tradition make this structure important. These cultural codes, which serve as a key, have been spatially analyzed by studying their effects especially on the entrance hall of the 2nd Ankara Railroad Terminal Building. In order to identify these codes which are the basic elements of this study, the life of people of Ankara from the 16th century to the proclamation of Republic and the situation of the railway during these years have been researched. For this reason, the causes of the factors that prepared to the railroad journey along with the Turkish War of Independence and the Republic and their effect on the society were also included in the study. As a result, by determining the cultural codes of Ankara up to the Republic, the points on this structure were discovered. When this study was carried out, especially the 'entrance hall' was emphasized and by determining the materials used in the structure and entrance hall, the cultural codes were revealed.
