Özet (EN)

This anthropological research represents an examination and interpretation of the cultural existence of the Uygur Turkic community in Istanbul, Turkey. The Uyghur people and the Turkish people are the two separate Turkic societies with strong historical ties and common treasury of culture and language. They share some common values in many areas, such as family relations, marriage, birth, death, language, and religion. However, both developed their own unique cultural assets that kept them under a national identity. Uygur Turks who are trying to survive with their unique cultural identity, have been suffering heavy losses in preserving their cultural assets, using their language and transferring them to the next generations. Especially the cultural losses of the Uygur people, who left their homeland by migration and spread all over the world, have become fatal and inevitable depending on the political and social structures of the society in which they live. This study examines the Uyghur people who migrated to Istanbul from 1950 to 2018, their culture and language in the context of cultural assimilation with anthropological methods. Keywords: Uygur Turkic Community, Uygur Culture, Uygur language, cultural assimilation, anthropology, marriage, polygamy, birth, death, family
