Prof. Dr, Necati TETİK Prof. Dr. Sadık KILIÇ Prof. Dr. Bahattin KÖK Prof. Dr. Nasrullah HACIMÜFTÜO?LU Prof. Dr. Salih AKDEMİR This thesis, aiming at studying the phonetic system and eloquence of Koran in respect of various modes of recitation, is composed of three main chapters: The Introductory Chapter presents some, general information on the terms of qira 'ah (recitation) and phonetics as a background to further discussions on the topics based on these concepts. Chapter One is concerned with pointing out some distinguished qualities of Koran manifesting both its verbal and spiritual grace and beauty, to reflect its intrinsic.but aesthetic musicality. Furthermore, the holy scripture of Koran and that of Bible are compared and contrasted from the point of eloquence and musical features so as to emphasize the universal appeal of Koran. Chapter Two is devoted to demonstrating the exelusiveness of Koranic eloquence in terms of recitation in particular. Employing the systematic method of rethoric, the syntax of the divine scripture and the cultivated and artful devices used within the text are presented in subchapters as ma'ani (semantics; semiologie), beyan (rhetoric of tropes and metonymies) and badi ' (aesthetics; tropes) respectively. Chapter Three focuses on the phonetic qualities of Koran from the point of view of qira'ah in particular. The topics such as "linguistic structure" and "variety of articulations and enunciations" are taken up with particular emphasis on Koran's musical quality and the interrelation of its literary meaning and sound.
