Harmonious mixture of the common feelings, thoughts and behaviors of a nation can be describedas ?culture?. Everything made by human beings in a society can be considered within the conceptof "culture". As culture is a human-product, it has a dynamic and changing structure. Amongothers, belief is one of the most influential factors that affect individuals? feelings, thoughts andbehaviors. Accordingly, religious texts, as the source of beliefs (faiths), most affect and shape theculture. For the case of Muslim societies, Holly Quran, as the main source of religion, is the mostinfluential factor on their culture.Proverbs constitute one of the elements of culture. They are not just a part of culture but alsoconvey the culture to future generations. Since formation and acceptance of proverbs takecenturies, one of the most direct ways to know a society?s culture is to look at its proverbs. By thetime goes, the character of the nation smells into every word of proverbs. We don?t know when each proverb was spoken out first and on what condition they wereproduced. Yet, we can make assumptions on their causes. In this study, the researcher explored theinfluence of Holly Quran on Turkish proverbs, assuming that Holly Quran is one of the mainsources that gives the meaning and spirit to Turkish proverbs. The cause of such a study is theexistence of proverbs which have the same or similar meanings with the religious scripts in theQuran. The researcher tried to demonstrate the effects of the Quran on the formation of Turkishproverbs, which are particularly related to faith issues, by drawing attention to ties between themeanings of the scripts from Holly Quran and Turkish proverbs. In doing so, proverbs related toissues of faith were classified according to subject titles. After briefly explaining each proverb, weprovided the detailed meaning of the religious script with which an affinity assumed between two.And finally, we draw attention to the similarities between the discourse of proverb and religiousscript. Findings of this study revealed that hundreds of proverbs have the same or similarmeanings with the religious scripts from Holly Quran, and some of the proverbs were excerptedfrom Quran word by word. We conclude that the Quran has played an important role in formationof the proverbs of the Turkish people who have lived as Muslim nation for thousand years and wasguided by scripts of Quran. Keywords: Culture, Proverb, Source of Proverbs, Influence of Quran
