Woman models in the holy Qur'an

The last and universal divine call, the Qur'an has given a new meaning to the general conception of woman constituting half of the humankind. In this study, the historical process of value appraised to woman in the context of pre -and post- Islamic periods, woman's problems and Qur'an's view of woman are investigated. Woman having been exploited, victimized or even discussed their humanity throughout history have gained legal, social and economic status with civilization of divine revelation. The Holy Qur'an comprises sample life stories to be presented to the benefit of the whole humankind, and thus, embodies the behaviors to be displayed and behaviors to be avoided. Some woman archetypes that have been indicated by the Qur'an have been studied in order to let them guide the Muslim woman personage in this modern age, in which identity crisis is unavoidable. The Qur'an, through Eve, restores the dignity of woman and at the same time indicates Mariam and Pharaoh's wife as a role model whereas Noah's and Lut's wives and Aziz's wife, Züleyha are shown as exemplary lessons and as unfavorable examples.
