Vocational competencies of Qur'an course teachers: Diyarbakır case

As in general education, teachers are the key element in teaching of the Qur?an Courses, that is to say that it is the same for Qur'an course teachers as well. It is the Qur?an course teacher who accomplishes operational aspects in Qur?an teaching and who makes the students reach the goals determined in education-trainingIn this study, the competencies of Qur?an course teachers have been tried to be determined and evaluated within the framework of survey and their statements.In the first part of the research, a theoretical infrastructure has been constituted over the competencies of Qur?an course teachers. At the same time, information about the research methods and techniques used have been presented. The historical development of Qur?an teaching from the time of the Prophet till now has been given. In the second part, the survey analysis and interpretations that we have applied take place.It has been concluded that the Qur?an course teachers participating in the study see themselves competent from the perspective occupational information and accept themselves at the level to meet the specific field knowledge in education and training activities.It has been understood from the responds of the Qur?an course teachers that they have not been sufficient in pedagogical formation during the process of education and training in general. However, the teachers do not display any effort in developing themselves in pedagogical formation. They have quite shortcomings about the issues of recognizing and using teaching strategies, methods and techniques, and making use of education technologies, and material preparation and improvement.As a result, while the Qur?an course teachers possess occupational competencies, they do not have sufficient information in pedagogical formation.When the ideal features of a teacher have been taken into consideration, there appear crucial shortcomings of Qur?an course teachers.As a result of our study, it has been found out that the teachers have various problems some of which are of the courses and some others of the students. Some of the courses are not convenient for education and training physically. Moreover, the fact that Qur?an courses do not promise a bright future and lack of motivation and absentees problems appear.As the result of the questions that we have asked in order to find out the case whether the Qur?an course teachers are interested in their students or not, it has been concluded that they are interested in their students after school and have participated in their special occasions (wedding, circumcision, condolence etc.).The Qur?an course teachers have a lot of problems as the other teachers working in the other institutions.
