Etymological analysis of some words given different meanings in the Quran and comparative evaluation in some meanings

This study is an analysis of the etymology and meaning of certain words in the Qur'an, covering the investigation of the meanings of specific words and their derivatives in pre-Islamic poetry (Jāhiliyyah poetry), the period of the Qur'an's revelation, in early Islamic poetry, and in the first Arabic lexicons. Additionally, it has been addressed whether the examined words have acquired technical meanings (istilāhī) within the context of the Qur'an. The roots (maṣdar) of these words, as well as the derivatives (mushtaq) formed from them, have been identified one by one, with information provided on how many times, in which verses, and in what sense they have been used in the Qur'an. Finally, within the numerous translation studies (meāl) available in our country, a comparison has been made between three translations to determine whether the meanings identified for these words are reflected. The results highlight the importance of correctly understanding these words for the accurate interpretation of the Qur'an. This thesis, by offering an in-depth analysis of the words in the Qur'an from an etymological and semantic perspective, aims to contribute to the correct understanding of the text, demonstrating that translations fail to reflect the richness of the Qur'an's meanings. The study aims to establish a foundation for future research and to create an important source for understanding the Qur'an's rich linguistic structure.
