The role of reciting differences in understanding the Quran: The sample of the exegesis called "al-Tahreerwa al-Tanweer"

One of the leading disciplines of Islamic sciences is Tafseer/exegesis. Differences in recitation/qiraah are among the primary sources used by the science of exegesis. For, recitations are not something out of the Qur'an. Thus, differences in recitation have been born in mind since the exegesis of Qur'an started and the impacts of these differences on the meaning have been evaluated by the exegetes. In regard to the importance of the issue, many related works have been authored so far or the issue has been deeply examined within exegesis corpus. One of these works where differences in recitation were studied in detail is the exegesis of Ibn 'Âshûr called al-Tahreerwa al-Tanweer, on which this research is based. As far as we can see in his exegesis, IbnAshur puts emphasis on recitation/qiraah and the impacts of recitations on understanding the Qur'an; moreover, he provides crucial information about recitation in his introduction of the work. Our aim is to put forth and evaluate the approach of IbnÂshûr, one of the modern scholars, to the science of recitation and to the recitations and the impact of recitation and differences in recitation on the meaning in his interpretation of the verses/ayah.
