The impact of the global actors on Syrian civil war -from 2011 to the present-

The Arab uprisings (Arab Spring), which started in Tunisia in December 2010 and spread to other Middle Eastern countries in a short time, started to be influential in Syria as of March 2011. However, the anti-regime demonstrations in Syria failed and the process turned into a civil war. The direct or indirect involvement of the regional and global actors in the conflict has become determining factor within this context. In this study, the impact of the global actors such as the United States, Russia and the EU on the Syrian civil war are discussed within the framework of securitization theory. The efforts of the United States, Russia and the EU to legitimize their intervention in the Syrian war through discourses based on securitization are evaluated around the power struggle between them. The study specifically argues that the interventions of global actors, acting with different political and strategic goals, in the Syrian civil war do not contribute to the peaceful resolution of the conflict and prolonge the conflict in Syria by making it more complicated.
