A review over the role of cartoons in the reproduction of ideologies on a global context: Family Guy, South Park and Spongebob

In the process of socialization, the role of cartoons in the formation of the personality of the child is important. The social development of the child is determined by what he / she watches and learns on television in the family environment. This happens through cartoons that address the child's young age through the colorful world. Watched cartoons often unconsciously send a number of messages to the subconscious. What is the content of these subliminal messages, what they point to, how their meanings are structured, what is the relationship between the content in the transformation of television and new media and all these are revealed within the scope of this research. As a matter of fact, children are the most receptive to the instructive power of television and new media and the perception against the virtual reality created. It is known that perception management is carried out for certain purposes when the educational and instructional characteristics of television and new media are structured with media reality. Powerful countries in the world market find the opportunity to make their voices heard through the media by constructing and spreading their own reality. The aim of this study is to determine the representations of common visual and auditory codes in the presentation of economic and political and sociocultural values to children through cartoons under the name of cultural imperialism in postcolonial studies. From this point of view, in the light of the semiotic analysis method, meaning strings and myth structures are explained in the scene by scene analysis in 3 US-made cartoons (Family Guy, South Park and SpongeBob SquarePants). Based on the problem of the research, it is an important emphasis that is reflected on the results of this study to find out the meaning constructions in cartoons and to convey the messages to the children's subconscious. While evaluating the elements in the cartoons, Gerbner's investigations on "happy violence" and "cultural indicators" were taken into consideration and the findings showed that cultural values supported ideological reproduction.
