Globalisation process and new orientations of Turkish foreign policy:Central Asia and Caucasus

Globalisation process - which is the product of economic dynamics of the birth of multinational corporations in 1970s, technologic dynamics of communication revolution in 1980s and political dynamics of the 1980s brought about by the collapse of the Soviet Union - deeply affected either newly emerged republics of Central Asia and Caucasus or the states and non-state actors that seek dominance in the region. In this study named "Globalisation Process and New Opportunities in Turkish Foreign Policy" firstly the impact of globalisation process on international politics is evaluated. The power centres of this process are questioned and the actors that have the tendency to oppose the process are expressed. Furthermore, the strategies of Russian Federation, China, Iran, India, Pakistan, European States, Israel, Saudi Arabia and the United States on Caucasus and Central Asia are examined by using the method of comparative analysis. By this way, the spheres of competition and domination and power vacuums are ascertained. The Turkish foreign policy towards the region is examined on this ground. The content of the "Turkish Model" is evaluated by fixing its relationship with the changes in the field of international politics in the era of globalisation. The strategies and the model constructed by those strategies in order to cause the rise of Turkey to a "regional power" or a "geopolitic actor" are stated by driving lessons from Atatiirk's foreign policy. The aim of this study is to ascertain the foreign policy of states that seek increase their involvement is the Caucasus and Central Asia and to state the basic dynamics of Turkish foreign policy towards the region. In this study, the successful and unsuccessful points of "Turkish model" is stated and it is asserted that "Kemalist model" should correct the unsuccessful points of "Turkish model".
