A content analysis of globalization and minority rights Yeni Dönem newspaper (Kosovo)

Yeni Dönem was established on 24 November 1999 as a weekly newspaper. The newspaper, which was published weekly for 10 years, had a total of 436 issues until 17 July 2008. As a newspaper published in Turkish in Kosovo; gave place to events in the daily lives of Kosovo Turks, in addition to news about Turkish associations and art societies, it gave place to news about concerning the community; education in native language, representation in the public and official use of Turkish language and news from Balkan geography, Turkey and world politics. NATO intervened in the war in Kosovo during the founding year of the newspaper. After the intervention, the country administration entered a new process. UNMIK, which governed the country after the NATO intervention, prepared a new constitution draft on the grounds of "structuring". In the draft of the new constitution, the high-level rights granted to the Turks in the 1974 Yugoslav Constitution were not included. These rights, which have been lost at a high level in all areas, including the right to use Turkish in the public sphere, education and the field of press-broadcasting, have been fully handled by the Yeni Dönem Newspaper. Yeni Dönem, which defines seeking a solution to the problems of Kosovo Turks as its reason for existence, has made the issue a publication policy. Newspaper, this loss of rights of Kosovo Turks; analyzed within the framework of the notions of minority rights, community rights and multiculturalism. These concepts cover the debates that have come to the fore in the process of globalization. These discussions, which also take place in social sciences, are made in the context of the concept of globalization and the relationship between the survival of the nation-state and the rights of minority communities. For this reason, the political and cultural dimensions of the phenomenon of globalization are included in the study. In addition, in the study, regionalization and localization, which are considered as institutions created by the globalization process, come to the fore; The effects of minority rights, cultural rights and multiculturalism policies on the functions of the nation-state and the communities within the society are discussed under sub-titles. These discussions in the literature coincide with the identity politics problems faced by Kosovo Turks in the historical process and the concepts that Yeni Dönem Newspaper uses to defend the rights lost by Kosovo Turks. In the study, based on these discussions and because the newspaper sees itself as the representative of Kosovo Turks, the newspaper's view of all issues is discussed in the context of community media. The editorial policy was tried to be revealed by examining the news and columns about the rights issue and other issues included in the sections of the Yeni Dönem Newspaper by using the content analysis method.
