Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to investigate how international capital movements are affected in the shadow of the COVID-19 epidemic disease, which emerged in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and quickly spread all over the world, while the debates on whether the impact of globalization is positive or negative on countries continues. After COVID-19 was declared as a global epidemic, the measures taken for health had an impact on the economy all over the world, and the effects of the epidemic, which manifested itself primarily with disruptions in supply chains, then spread rapidly to all economies as a result of dependence on the global system. The effects of the epidemic have been particularly significant for developing economies. The cessation of foreign direct investment into these countries and other investments in their markets created several difficulties. Therefore, it is important to examine the effects of COVID-19 on the international investment position in emerging markets. The hypothesis advocated in this study COVID-19 is a cause of changes in foreign direct investments, portfolio investments and other investments. For this purpose, it has been analyzed whether the change in the number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey is a reason for the changes in foreign direct investments, portfolio investments and other investments. In addition, some prominent crises in the past were investigated, and it was discussed whether the shock with COVID-19 would lead to any "Sudden Stop" crisis.
