Effects of multicultiralism on the nation state in the process of globalization

The construction of a nation covers a period of at least 300-400 years in western societies. The notion of "Nation State" is an old term for the West while it is a new concept for Eastern societies. Globalization is the phenomenon which guided changes in society and state structures in the last century. This phenomenon, which affects all areas of economic, political and cultural life, forces the nation-state structures into an inevitable changed. The approach of replacing everything "national" with "global" through multinational companies and the media is applied all over the world. Globalization promises societies human rights, welfare, technology, free movement, democracy based on broader rights, and it is seen that this phenomenon is multidimensional in the emergence of negativities such as locality, identity diversity, micro nationalism, immigration and terror. Globalization has been one of the main areas of discussion in the last twenty years of social sciences all over the world. There is only one force, nation states, that can limit the sphere of influence that might stand against globalization, expressed "as something that changes everything, including itself". Globalization deprives the nation-state of its autonomy in determining its economic policies. The economies that do not belong to any nationality have strengthened new approaches such as "consumer society", "global society" and "civil society". Local identity and cultural demands threaten the sovereignty of the nation state through the supra-national and sub-national organizations. The most fundamental element in the formation of the nation state is undoubtedly the idea of nationality. Globalization has a social consequence that differentiates it. Multiculturalism policies, which in a sense, erode the territoriality and sovereignty that the unitary state structure blessed are especially imposed by international organizations. The New Ottomanism concept in our country, especially in recent years, is the formation of the foresight based on the association of different religious and ethnic groups. This structure creates effects that will undermine the sense of belonging that will ensure the continuity of the founding culture and political unity. Nation states were organized on the basis of integration that rejected the identity and diversity approach in their construction processes. This paper aims to answer the question of whether multiculturalism is the end of nation states on the axis of globalization.
