Abstract (EN)
In this thesis study, with the focus of the word ?globalization? which we often hear nowadays, it is aimed to identify the geographical dimension of the globalization and to evaluate the water sources in Turkey via this perspective. The minimization of the land, the contraction of the distance and the elimination of the borders lead to ?global village?. However, everybody won?t be able to be citizens of this village. For the ones who are in high status in global profession, the border barriers are low, but fort he millions of others the border barriers have increased more than ever.Globalization, even poor or rich, can create new threats to the security of people from all countries. These threats may be not only job insecurity and financial insecurity (job loss ? loss of income) but also health insecurity (HIV?AIDS spread, etc) and cultural mistrust.Globalization opens people?s lives to others and creates ideas and information flow. Nonetheless, new cultures which find on opportunity for the global spread may be distruptive.Today, the cultural flow is extremely unstable and this occurs in one direction from rich countries to poors (UTNDP, 1999).Available water sources are decreasing day by day due to the result of the increasing world population and environmental pollution. Because of this, the water which is presented to human use is considered to have great economic value. Because of its geographical position, our country is in a place where water scarce is seen most. It is estimated that 400 million population of Mediterranean Region will reach 500 million in 2025. In order to meet the need for drinking water of the increasing population 250-300 million m3 of additional water supply is required each year. The acquired results were compared with the results of other foreign countries water resources. This study, in which it is found that water resources have a crucial role in the existence of life in the whole world because of the geographical dimension of the globalization, tries to raise suggestions about how to use water resources rationally.
