Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effects of lycopene in the prevention of liver tissue damage caused by lead acetate in lycopene treated rats. In the study, 24 adult and Wistar albino rats weighing approximately 250-350 g were used. The rats were randomized into three groups; Control group: Isotonic serum was administered (ip). Lead acetate group (25 mg / kg) (ip) lead acetate was administered. Lead Acetate + Lycopene group: (25 mg / kg) (ip) + lycopene (100 mg / kg) administration was done with the oral gauge. Rats in all groups were sacrificed at the end of the 7thday and the liver tissues were obtained. Rats in all groups were sacrificed at the end of 7 days and liver tissues were taken. SOD, CAT, GSH-Px, GSH, MDA levels were evaluated. SOD enzyme activity was decreased in the Pb group compared to the control group (p˂0.001), whereas it was found that the activity increased in the lycopene group compared to the Pb group (p˂0.05).It was seen that CAT enzyme activity decreased in Pb and Pb + lycopene treated groups (p˂0.001).An increase was observed in the lycopene group when compared with the Pb group. Compared with the control group, GPX enzyme activity was decreased in Pb (p˂0.001) and Pb + lycopene (p˂0.05) treated groups. There was an increase in the lycopene group when compared with the Pb group (p˂0.001). Compared to the control group, a statistically significant decrease (p <0.01) was observed in GSH values in the Pb treated group and an increase in the lycopene + Pb treated group compared to the Pb treated group. When the MDA level was evaluated; It was determined that the increase (p <0.01) in the Pb treated group compared to the control group and the decrease (p <0.001) in the Pb + lycopene treated group compared to the Pb treated group. As a result, it is thought that the antioxidant enzyme levels such as SOD, CAT, GSH-Px and GSH, MDA parameters are significantly changed, and lycopene may be protective because of the positive effects detected in the liver tissue. Findings of this study may lead to future studies with different dosage schemes.
