The dictionaries in Kurdish language

Lexicon, which is called "Ferheng" in Kurdish, "Kâmûs" in Arabic, "Dictionary" in English is the name given to the Works that give the way of utterance and writing of the vocabulary of a language or languages, show the different usages of the words and meanings that they establish with other factors by basing on the root of the word. In this context, as in all languages, dictionaries have a great importance in Kurdish language as well. The study of Kurdish dictionary began with the work of Ehmedê Xanê's "Nûbehara Biçûkan (The Spring of Children)." Today, parallel with the other languages' studies in dictionaries, Kurdish Dictionary studies have been developed and spread quickly as well. The Kurdish dictionaries that prepared in a very wide area and spoken in different countries, have been both with different features and prepared in different alphabets. Although these differences have added a diversity to the prepared dictionaries, they have created a handicap both for those who have prepared the dictionaries and for those who have consulted to them. In this study, the historical process of the Kurdish dictionary discussed and the dictionaries that unveiled in the historical process were examined without focusing on the handicaps mentioned. In line with this review, especially, mainly Kurdish - Kurdish, Kurdish - Turkish, Kurdish – English and the Kurdish dictionaries made in other languages aimed to be conducted in the form of the introduction of bibliography.
