A research on the effect of institution, industry and resource–based factors on firm performance

The papers that study the historical development of strategic management point out that researches have focused to outside of firm after 2000s. Institution–based view is an important theoretical argument occurred in the context of emerging economies as a result of this tendency. In present study, it is argued conceptually and theoretically strategy tripod and institution–based view and tested empirically within the scope of the institutional effects on the export performance. Data used in empirical analysis was gathered by survey study. The scales in the survey were taken place in literature. Correlation and regression analyses were performed on the data by using SPSS. Findings show that strategy tripod and institution–based view are explanatory about the firm performance which one of the important arguments in the strategic management fıeld. Within the strategy tripod perspective, it is found that resources and capabilities, position in the industry and institutional environments of firms effect export performance positively. In addition, findings reveal that normative and cognitive institutional pillars have positive effects on export performance. Moreover, results suggest that both strategy tripod and institution–based view have potential to explain firm behaviors. It is also found that institution–based view became an independent theoretical field and the methodology and terminology of view have started to differ from institutional theory. Further researches, which study the role of institutional environment on the differentiated strategic behaviors of firms, will contribute to theoretical development of institution–based view.
