Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine which variables, in terms of professional guidance and career counselling, are effective in explaining the movements of the students towards a different direction while they are participating in a horizontal transition or double major program. In this study, a mixed research design is utilized. The study group of the research is composed of 82 number of second, third- and fourth-year students, who are attending in a double major program or in-institutional horizontal transition and studying in two different private and two public universities. As the data collection mechanism, Personal Information Form (PIF), Professional Outcome Expectation Measure (POEM), Family Effect in Career Development (FECD), Measure for Expectation of Competence in Career Decision (MECCD)and semi-structured interview form are used. The data obtained from the results of the study are analysed by using Kruskal-Wallis and Manny Whitney U tests. According to the results of the study, there is no significant difference in the in determination of the horizontal transition or double major program students about the career of students according to mother-father education, concern status, value-belief, income level, and gender, but, there is a significant difference in terms of information support. As a result of the study, for saving the students from the career in determination and disharmony, some suggestions for researchers, teachers, academic advisors in universities and families are made.
