The scandals that were experienced as a result of corporate govenance violations: Case studies

The purpose of this paper is to examine financial scandals that have left a deep mark on global markets thorougly. Scandals like Enron, WorldCom, Parmalat, Royal Ahold, Satyam, Kanebo, Global Crossing, HealthSouth, Lehman Brothers, Imarbank, and Demirbank have had serious consequences, including increasing financial fragility and undermining the confidence of not only the companies involved, but also investors, regulators and the public. These cases are significant because they demonstrate how breaches in financial reporting processes, corporate governance weaknesses, and inadequate control mechanisms can lead to serious crises in the corporate-economic environment. The study systematically addresses the causes of financial scandals, the fraudulent methods applied, the deficiencies in corporate governance mechanisms, and the role of corporate culture in these processes. Each case is evaluated in terms of its development, the ways in which the parties are affected, and the resulting consequences. Furthermore, the common features and the differences are analyzed comparatively. This aims understanding past scandals as well as identifying implications for preventing similar crises in the future. This research was conducted using the case analysis method. Each scandal was examined based on its own dynamics and interpreted in the light of information obtained from academic studies, official reports and research publications whose reliability has been recognized. This approach not only allows the study to recount historical events but also provides an in-depth examination of corporate governance and financial reporting practices.
