Abstract (EN)
The construction sector, especially in developing countries; has the feature of being the leading sector for the national economies. Due to the unique, one-off, dynamic and complex structure of the projects in the construction sector, which has a great share in the development of national and world economies, construction projects contain a wide range of risks. These risks that may be encountered in the projects prevent the successful conclusion of the construction projects in the desired quality, within the determined budget and time. Failure to complete the construction projects within the determined budget and time frames and with the desired quality causes great loss to the contractor companies at the micro level and to the country's economy at the macro level. Contractor companies operating in the construction sector need to manage their projects with a proactive approach in order to ensure their sustainability and to be a partner in the high competitive environment in the sector. This situation inclines, a systematic risk management to be inevitable for construction projects. In this study; It is aimed to examine the effect of risk management practices of contractor firms in the Turkish construction sector on the cost performance of construction projects. For this purpose, three different construction projects were selected as case studies, and the risks that cause time and cost exceedings in the projects were determined in line with the opinions of the project managers, and qualitative and quantitative risk analyzes were carried out for each project. The results obtained were compared with the actual time and cost variances experienced in the projects. As a result of the comparisons, the risk perception of the companies and the effect of the risk measures taken on the cost were examined and the critical factors for a successful risk management were tried to be determined. In addition, within the scope of the thesis; The "Joint Project Management Portal" software, which was created using the project infrastructure of TUBITAK 1001 No. 117M308, "A Tool for Improving Internal Control and Risk Management Capacity for Transition to Proactive Management in Construction Projects: Joint Project Management Portal", was introduced to the project managers involved in the projects selected as a case study. The effect of portal use on project risk management has been tried to be revealed by simulation analysis. It is thought that the numerical data obtained from the thesis study can be a guide for small and medium-sized construction companies that do not have sufficient knowledge on risk management by revealing the importance of risk management in construction projects. It is thought that similar studies that can be carried out on construction projects of different types and sizes in the future will reveal the relationships between the main factors affecting risk management in construction projects and contribute to the development of risk management practices in construction projects.
