Effect of kurut support on bone metabolism, muscle tissue and oxidative stress parameters

Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of the study was to examine the effect of kurut supplementation on bone metabolism, muscle tissue and oxidative stress parameters in rats. Material and Method: The fully experimental study was conducted with 42 male Wistar albino rats, 14-16 weeks old, 250-300 g. Rats were divided into six groups as Kontrol (K), Kurut (KR) and Whey (W) Exercise (E), Exercise+Kurut (E+KR) and Exercise+Whey (E+W) by single blinding method. Kurut and whey supplementation was administered at a rate of 1.8 g/kg/day via gavage after exercise. Rats were given incremental swimming exercises three days a week for 14 weeks. At the end of the study, blood and muscle tissue samples were taken from the rats. The bone formation parameters such as Alkalinephosphatase (ALP) and Osteocalcin (OC), histological changes in soleus and quadriceps muscle, and the oxidative stress parameters Catalase (CAT), Glutathione (GSH), Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity levels were examined. Kruskal Wallis-H and Mann-Whitney U test with Bonferroni correction were used in the analysis of the data. Results: When the bone formation markers and histological parameters were examined, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the E+KR group and the K, KR, W and E groups (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the E+W group (p<0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between the E+KR group and the E group (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the E+W group in terms of oxidative stress parameters (p<0.05). Conclusion: As a result, it can be said that exercise administration together with kurut support positively affects bone metabolism, muscle tissue and oxidative stress parameters of rats.
