Abstract (EN)

Consisting of three chapters this thesis examines how women and motherhood undergo a change process from generation to generation and how motherhood practices are affected by this change. In the scope of the study were conducted in-depth interviews in Gaziantep with 18 mothers with middle or upper socioeconomic income level. Starting with the concept of gender, which is prominent throughout the study it is emphasized on reproduction of motherhood. In this context are handled the secondary positions of women in relation to the changes in the social structure in the historical process. In order to understand the changes better, in this work is discussed the literature about the role of motherhood in the framework of gender in the process of transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic. Besides, the discourse of motherhood, which has got to occupy a central place among the new discourses with neoliberal policies in the post-1980 period, is discussed.
