A review on Kütahya manis (poem)

Manis are the most common form of anonymous folk poetry. Therefore, they have been one of the most important carriers of oral culture. This study titled A Review on Kutahya Manis is solely limited with Kutahya manis and about reviews made on these manis.In the first part of the study, the concept of mani in Turkish Folk Literature and the historical development of mani are reviewed and general information on the form of mani is provided. Major themes of manis are referred and classifications of manis by reviewers are included. Relation of mani with other anonymous folk literature works such as ballads, threnodies, lullabies, folk stories, epics, jokes, tales, riddles, tongue twisters, prayers, curses, idioms and proverbs is analyzed and their similar and different aspects are determined.In the second part, the tradition of telling manis in Kutahya is addressed, compiled Kutahya manis are classified according to their forms, subjects, preparations and applications and enriched with examples of such classified manis.In the third part of our study, reflections of religious and cultural factors on Kutahya manis are analyzed and the determinations made are exemplified by mani texts.Keywords: Classification, Culture, Factor, Kütahya, Mani.
