Logic of concepts in Qutb al-Din al-Razi

Qutb al-Din al-Razi, one of the prominent logic scholars and philosophers of the 14th century, perpetuated the classical Islamic Logic tradition with his pieces in Logic. In addition, he took a valuable place in Logic with his explanations on ?concept? and ?definition? which are controversial issues in Logic.The present study titled ?Qutb al-Din al-Razi?s Logic of Concepts? as an unstudied subject aims to present how Qutb al-Din al-Razi examined the logic of concepts. Chapter I examines issues of ?term? and ?concept,? their types and their relations to each other as a preparatory work in order to understand Razi?s logic of concepts. It is possible to say that Razi was influenced by classical Islamic logic.Chapter II analyzes the issues of ?Five Universes? as another step of the logic of concepts and of ?Definition? as an objective result in Razi?s Logic of Concepts. Razi?s explanations on controversial issues carry him into a precious and unique status in Logic.In conclusion, his understanding of concept is stated in the light of his explanations.Keywords: Qutb al-Din al-Razi, Term, Concept, Five Universes, Definition, Logic of Concepts.
