Özet (EN)

ABSTRACT PhD Thesis THE DETERMINATION OF NATURAL RADIOACTIVITY IN THE INTERSECT ZONE OF THE NORTH ANATOLIAN FAULT AND EAST ANATOLIAN FAULT Oktay BAYKARA Firat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science Physics Department 2005, Page: 82 In this study, the natural radioactivity of the two major intersect fault systems (zone of the North and East Anatolian Faults in Bingöl-Karlıova and its vicinity) of Turkey was determined. For this purpose, the samples of water and soil were collected from the studied area and they were prepared to determine their radioactivity levels by using the suitable detection systems. The heavy metal (Fe, Pb, Cu, K, Mn, Cr ve Zn) concentrations from soil samples have also been obtanied. Furthermore, terrestrial gamma radiation dose rates of the studied area have been measured and radon concentration of soil air in some fault lines in theintersect zone of the North and East Anatolian Fault were measured by using CR-39 passive nuclear track detectors. Keywords: Natural radioactivity, Radon, CR-39, NAFZ, EAFZ. VIII
