Determination of variability in seasonal and annual rains in Kızılırmak basin

Abstract (EN)

Water is the most important source of life for living things. Throughout his life and with the existence of humanity on earth, water was needed and living things tried to recognize and benefit from water in every aspect. As a matter of fact, people or tribes settled on the shores of rivers and lakes and water was effective in spreading civilizations to those geographies. In this study, it was aimed to determine the variability in seasonal and annual rains in the Kızırmak basin. For the determination of seasonal variations (MI: January-March; MII: April-June; MIII: July-September; MIV: October-Decenber) and annual total rainfall amounts obtained from the total monthly rainfall of the rainfall stations in the Kızılırmak basin. Data from 1950 to 2015 taken from 30 rain measuring station belonging to the Turkish Meteorological Service were used. ManWhitney-U, Holt Approach, Spearman Rho, and Pettitt tests were used to analyze these data. According to the Mann-Whithney U test, homogeneity was deteriorated in 7 rain stations for annually. According to the Holt approach, it is determined that there are changes in decreasing direction in 15 stations and increase in other stations. According to the Spearman Rho Test of 150 rain series obtained for Kızılırmak basin, 32 of these rain series have changed in 18 descending direction and 14 in increasing direction. In the Pettitt Test, a trend was determined in decreasing direction in 18 stations and an increase in 14 stations. As a result, it is not possible to conclude that the rainfall regime in Kızılırmak Basin is increasing, decreasing or stable.
