Spinoza'da ebediyet ve ölümsüzlük

This study aims at discussing a highly controversial subject in thework of Spinoza. In the last part of Ethics Spinoza puts forward theeternity of the mind. This concept is in fact, strictly related to the ultimateobjective of the doctrine i.e. to virtue and blessedness. However, the ideaaccording to which an eternal part of the mind remains after the demise ofthe body, has been considered contradictory with regards to other mainpremises of the system as body-mind parallelism and body as the principleof individuation. Spinoza?s Eternity has even seen by some interpreters, asa defense of the immortality of the soul. Our mains goals are, firstly toexamine the immortality of the soul within the contexts of Jewishreligious/philosophical tradition and of the historical experience ofMarranos, then to study the concept of eternity of the mind with itsontological (Duration-Eternity), physical-psychological (memory,imagination, understanding), epistemological (kinds of knowledge) andethical (Intellectual Love of God replacing the passions of sorrow)implications, thus to demonstrate how the eternity of the mind differs fromthe classical doctrines of personal immortality.
