Abstract (EN)
The Ottoman modernization which started the administrative field, extended to the society. When this process evaluated from a social point of view, the state and the intellectuals of this period frequently emphasize two elements: women and family. For them, various aspects of these two elements had to evolve according to the conditions of the period but this change could only take place after its boundaries have been meticulously drawn. Intellectuals who used literature to determine the direction and limits of the social change, placed women and family issues at the center of their works. This study examines the issue of marriage in the novels of the period of modernization and aims to shed light on the social boundaries imposed on Ottoman women and the subjects frequently emphasized during the creation of the new Ottoman family.
