Abstract (EN)
Technological advances and globalization have facilitated the mobility of patients and healthcare professionals, contributing to the expansion of medical tourism. The rapid growth of this sector, supported by the government, raises concerns about its effects on local healthcare systems, particularly in terms of exacerbating inequalities in the distribution of medical resources. This study explores the impact of medical tourism on the accessibility of healthcare in Turkey, as a host destination, in light of the advances of the Health Transformation Program (HTP) and the integration of private facilities in the delivery of medical services. It also examines the significant rise of urban hospitals and the USHAŞ, which are creating an atypical dynamic and influencing the supply of care for the local population, while highlighting the challenges of balancing the needs of foreign patients and the local population.
