Tahar Ben Jelloun's L'Enfant de Sable(1985) and La Nuit Sacrée(1987) is based on the construction of postcolonial identity through an androgynous hero. In these novels, the plot is woven into a magical realistic world. Magical realism is a narrative method propagated in the field of literature in Latin America during the postmodern period. This current is dealing with the real and the unreal in harmony allows oppressed and uprooted societies to reinvent themselves by discovering their origins. Tahar Ben Jelloun a French writer of Moroccan origin, builds his romantic universe rich in fantastic elements, merging his Eastern cultural heritage with the mythical heritage of the Occident. This thesis examines the way in which magical realism is exploited in Francophone literatures, especially in the works of Tahar Ben Jelloun.
